Two fated lovers.

So thanks to Gordon, Mary Lloyd and John Grayson have been able to put a generational family feud behind them and start their lives together.  Their short lives.  As comic book fans know, the Flying Graysons will run afoul of evil in the years to come and the couple will meet their untimely demise.  The sole survivor will be their as-yet-unborn son, Dick.  That young man will become the ward of a Bruce Wayne—and the sidekick to Batman known as Robin.  Find out more about that story in Nightwing Vol. 1: Traps and Trapezes. 

Incidentally, Robin and the Flying Graysons were introduced in 1940—which means that Robin is 75 years young this year.  And he's still going strong as an international spy in his own series, Grayson!

You wouldn’t want to be a member of this club.

So the Hellfire Club was scapegoated as the murderers of circus member Lila Velasco.  Is this group just another gathering of Gotham oddities?  Nope.  In fact, the history of the club is very real and traces its pagan origins back to 18th Century England.  Certain members of the aristocracy would gather once or twice a month to engage in parodies of church rituals, worshipping old gods and demons.  It will be interesting to see whether or not Gotham actually still has a functional society and which members of the city’s elite may be members.

Wayne Enterprises.

Bruce and Alfred pay the Board of Directors and Bruce shows them who’s really in charge—and possibly opens a nasty can of worms at the same time.  Ties to Welzyn and Arkham aside, just how long have the Wayne’s been in business?  In the DCU, the company, originally known as WayneCorp, has been around since the 17th Century.  Over the years its holdings have grown to include telecommunications, aerospace, and just about every other technology a superhero might need to draw upon in his crusade upon crime. 

Now that’s a punchline.

With one killer laugh, young Jerome showed himself to be some kind of joker!  But is he The Joker?  His definitive origin has never been revealed in the comics.  Maybe he is or maybe he’s just a sick kid with a twisted smile.  All we can surmise is that we have not heard the last laugh on this subject.
