Last week had Kara seeing red (as in Red Tornado), but Supergirl’s newest adversary may just have her screaming. Warner Bros. and CBS just announced that actress Italia Ricci (Chasing Life, Don Jon) has been cast in the role of Siobhan Smythe, perhaps better known around these parts as Silver Banshee.
On Supergirl, Siobhan is Cat Grant's latest hire who at first will become a work nemesis for Kara before she later proves a more deadly foe for Supergirl when she takes on the mantle of DC Comics villain, Silver Banshee.
Silver Banshee is traditionally a Superman villain, but in recent years has proven to be a far more natural—and frightening—foe for his cousin, Supergirl. In the first year of The New 52, which reset the character’s continuity, she was introduced as a young woman from Dublin and was the only one who could understand the Kryptonian-speaking Kara. The two became friends up until Siobhan followed in her criminal father’s footsteps to become the Silver Banshee.
Ricci (above) is well suited for the role, a sentiment shared by Supergirl Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg. “We are so excited to be working with Italia,” he says. “We've been a fan of her work for years and we cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role.”
