Hush

As a child, Thomas “Tommy” Elliot was Bruce Wayne’s closest friend. Now he’s one of Batman’s greatest enemies.

Tommy Elliot was born into a wealthy family where he spent his childhood playing chess and other strategy-based games with his best friend Bruce Wayne. However, Bruce never suspected the truth about Tommy’s home life. Tommy’s father was abusive, and his mother enabled the abuse by turning a blind eye.

Seeking to break away from his parents and inherit their fortune, Tommy sabotaged the brakes of their car. His father perished in the car crash, but Dr. Thomas Wayne was able to save Tommy’s mother. Forced to spend the remainder of his childhood caring for his disabled mother, Tommy came to resent the Wayne family for saving her and depriving him of his inheritance. His affection for Bruce soon turned to jealousy, which then turned into hatred.

When he reached adulthood, Tommy’s mother threatened to change her will, depriving him of the Elliot family fortune for good. Enraged, Tommy smothered his mother with a pillow. He then traveled the world, sharpening his skills, before returning to Gotham City and making a name for himself as a surgeon. However, his hatred for Bruce Wayne never went away.

Working with The Riddler, Tommy learned that Bruce was secretly Batman and he began planning his revenge. Developing the super-villain persona Hush, Tommy began a series of campaigns designed to weaken and kill the Dark Knight. Over the years, Hush has nearly killed Catwoman, disguised himself as Bruce Wayne with plastic surgery, and mobilized all of Batman’s villains against him. Although he’s been defeated each time, the distinctly bandaged baddie has made it clear that he won’t stop until he has destroyed his onetime friend Bruce Wayne once and for all.
