It's June A.K.A. Pride Month A.K.A. a reason for us to celebrate the sartorial skills of some of our favorite queer characters in the DC Universe. Yep, they're here, they're queer, and they know how to style their superheroic rears! So put on your best spandex, grab your most impactful accessory, and join me as we talk about some of the most fabulous dressers in the DCU.

Selina Kyle

It's hard to start anywhere else but Selina Kyle. Our favorite bisexual cat burglar has always been showcasing her second-to-none style since her very first appearance in Batman #1 where she rocked an emerald green dress that is just as sassy and delightful as any of her modern looks. With a closet so packed with gems, it's hard to select just a few, but we have to shout out her iconic latex catsuit as well as some of those designer dresses she rocked the last time that she was engaged to that eligible bachelor Bruce Wayne. Of course, maybe her most memorable look was the cat-eared purple and green Golden Age Earth-One costume, which would go on to influence her looks for decades to come. Thanks for the fits, Selina!

John Constantine

Sure, he's been rocking the same look for twenty-plus years, but if it ain't broke don't fix it, am I right? Looking like a cross between Sting and your cool geography teacher with a li’l sprinkle of Columbo, his beige trenchcoat, red tie, white shirt combo has been making our knees weak since he debuted in legendary fashion in Swamp Thing #37. Though this would be his most famous aesthetic, he has dabbled in some other great fashion choices like in the delightful YA graphic novel Constantine: Distorted Illusions, where a teenage Constantine tries some chaos magic while rocking an array of gothic glamor thanks to artist Isaac Goodhart.

Poison Ivy

She's the queen of green, the mistress of mean, the one and only Pamela Isley who, whether fighting crime in rain or shine, can be guaranteed to be looking fine. Her power over plants means she always had access to some of the most unique garments in the DC Universe. Capable of pulling together a perfect ensemble under any circumstances, it's a wonder that she hasn't gone into super-costume design. But even when she's not wearing leaves and roses, she's still one of our fave superheroic stylists. From cropped capri pants and tight tees to her old lab coat, she's one of the best to ever do it and we are always excited to see the ways that artists reimagine and reframe her unique tastes!

Harley Quinn

We couldn't talk about Poison Ivy without mentioning her on-again, off-again sometime wife Harleen Quinzel. Sure, her circus style might not be for everyone, but she's always putting a fun twist on her namesake's costuming, constantly reinventing her original iconic look for new generations of fans and foes. From her very first animated appearance, she's been in a league of her own, whether she’s perfecting the art of power tool accessorizing, rocking some roller derby chic, or glamming up for a date with her beau. If your type is wild, wiley and wearing hot pants, then you're already a fan of the Clown Princess of Crime (Fighting).

Midnighter

If you prefer your hunks chunky and wrapped in leather then Midnighter is likely already one of your favorite DC heroes. While he may have begun life in the Wildstorm universe, he was already a queer trailblazer in those pages with his rugged looks and romance with fellow hero Apollo. His stubble is as enticing as that sexy cowl that definitely doesn't remind us of any other DC heroes—wink wink nudge nudge—especially when paired with his all black ensembles. He's a bad boy with a good heart and who doesn't love one of those?

Crush

A relatively new addition to the ever-expanding DC canon, Crush is the daughter of Lobo and is a half-Czarnian badass with looks to match. After crash-landing at Burning Man, she was raised by human parents until they were killed. It's a rough upbringing that led her to join—and eventually leave—the Teen Titans. When it comes to her style, Crush rocks a pretty classic aesthetic with an undercut, short sleeve cropped jacket, and punk accouterments. She's a rock-n-roll lesbian with death metal makeup, bright pink leggings and massive chunky boots, so basically she is exactly what the often bland Metropolis fashion scene needs!
