Well, if anyone could achieve it, it’s Superman. In this week’s SUPERMAN #9, the Man of Steel is joined by his family (which is a lot bigger and older and…superer than we remember them being), his friends and several of his one-time enemies to celebrate World Peace Day, a commemoration of the day when people finally stopped fighting one another and embraced the peaceful ideals that Superman has always fought for.
It’s an undeniably nice, if baffling moment. After all, when we last saw the Man of Steel, he was listening in shock as the newly returned Jon described getting pulled into a black hole on his journey with his grandfather and coming face to frightening face with the Crime Syndicate.
Yes, you read that right—the Crime Syndicate! The infamously evil Justice League from the nightmarish Earth-3. It’s been a while since we’ve seen them, which is probably a good thing since Earth probably couldn’t survive more frequent visits. So, with the confrontation of young Superboy’s life looming, forgive us if we seem a bit surprised that everything in this exclusive preview of the issue seems so…serene. We’re all about giving peace a chance, but we do hope Superman keeps his guard up, as something tells us all here is not as it seems.
SUPERMAN #9 by Brian Michael Bendis, Ivan Reis, Brandon Peterson, Joe Prado, Oclair Albert and Alex Sinclair is in stores Wednesday.
